In 2015, our founder David L. Woods saw a need to have a local Search and Rescue Team. It started as "Cherokee Village Search and Rescue" then changed a few years later to "Sharp County Search and Rescue". This was and is still today an all volunteer group of guys and gals who give thier time and in a lot of cases, funds from their own pockets to aquire training and gear which can be somewhat expensive. Our team members often pay for their own training and travel to training since our funding is very tight.
We aquired our first "Command Trailer" which was built out with office space in the front and down time area for our team members in the rear. While a somewhat small and all steel trailer, it seved its purpose. We also did some fundraising to get a K-9. A Drone was donated to the team shortly after.
In 2023, the team filed for 501 c3 non-profit status which was approved by the State of Arkansas and currently we are waiting on IRS to approve on their end. We were given a very much needed donation by an annonumis donar which allowed us to purchase a newer, much lighter and quite a bit bigger trailer in which equipment in the first trailer will be moved to once we start building out the new one.
While we do have some funding as a non-profit, we do continue to hold fundraiser of various types to help offset our members training and costs of becoming a non-profit.
